The Andongpo Weaving Village Preservation Society is an incorporated association designated in 2015 as the holder organization of National Intangible Cultural Heritage No. 140, Andongpo Weaving, under the Act on the Preservation and Promotion of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Its headquarters is at 85 Geumso-jungang-gil, Imha-myeon, Andong, where it operates a transmission education hall staffed by about 20 people - skill holders, transmitters, instructors, and trainees - centered on Chairman Im Bang-ho.
Its main activities include a transmission school that demonstrates and teaches the traditional process from hemp cultivation to weaving, the planning of annual public events, photo contests, and village festivals, training programs to nurture traditional-weaving artisans, and planning exhibitions of Andongpo daily goods and crafts.
Each year more than 1,000 people visit to experience the process of Andongpo completed by 100 touches, expanding the millennium-old weaving technique into modern living culture. The society plans to continue connecting the region's history and future with a single hemp thread through research on traditional techniques, design collaborations, and overseas exhibition exchanges.
